A Deadly Catch and Sex for fish

The videos I saw for my english class on youtube. One called Deadly Catch and the other Sex for fish is about fisherman in Africa who have a jaboya system which basically means the fisherman catch the fish and the women eventually form a sexual relationship with the fisherman in order to get fish either to feed their children or to put it on the market and sale it. But this is a prime example why Aids has run rampent through Africa. Places like Africa are in so much proverty they have to resort to things such as prostitution for fish or money so they can feed their families. Which is why the virus spreads so rapidly and without them listening to the education of this virus and about safe sex this disease will continue to spread.

Before I watched these videos I knew there was prostitution in africa. I knew Aids was running wild in africa because of the proverty and lack of education in africa about Aids. But I did not know that women in africa were having sex for fish. But the women in the jaboya system dont have much of a choice because the women that have sex with the fisher have a guarentee that they will have some fish but for the women that try not to have sex with the fisherman there is no guarentee that they will get any fish. Women have to provide for their kids and families so in the end they have to have sex with the fisherman.

Four Videos

The first video that I watched for class talks about summaries. A summary is a shortend version of the topic in your own words. Paraphrasing is using your own words but not making it shorter. Also restating something is just using your own words.

The second video talks about using keywords. Using keywords in a search engine such as google search is way different from using keywords in a library search engine. In a library search engine when you type keywords in the keywords are words that will be found within the article. So when typing keywords imagine words that will be in the article.

The third video talks about the difference between popular sources and scholarly sources. Scholar sorces have more depth to them, usually in black and white, have lots of refrences, and contain complex vocabulary. Popular sources attract your attention, have lots of decoration, and not much information

The last video talks about how citation. No matter how bright your ideas are in the paper or what you say if you dont give the credit deserved to the right source the right way this could result into getting in trouble.

America vs Uganda and Thailand on Aids

Once the Aids epidemic emerged in the 80's America quickly started doing reasearch trying to figure out what this virus exactly was, where did it come from, and how are we going to get a vaccine. People in Uganda called this the slim disease. Uganda has a lack of funding on medical since this is a very poor country. So people in Uganda would end up going to their local priests and get prayers said to them instead of the necessary treatment. Most would just lay in the hospital beds and die. Even though many died in the US scientists were still working hard to find a vaccine for this virus. So the American approach was more effective than the Uganda's approach but with the lack of funding for Uganda there wasnt much they could do.

Aids in america and my life

In my life I havent really paid any attention to Aids and what it has done to our community. But as I entered college and saw how many groups and signs there was I began to become interested in the history of Aids.

Watching a video in my english class really gave me a good insight on Aids and how it became what it is today.Aids is a serious topic in todays world. Its not as big now as it was back in the 80's because it has been around for so long but it is still a problem of todays world because there is no vaccine for the HIV virus and many people still are dying. As any other virus or disease as time goes on the virus or disease will either die out or we will become immune. My view of Aids is really neutral. If I knew a friend who had Aids I would still be there friend and treat them the same but at the same time i would still be careful.

A Gay Man's Case Against Gay Marriage

On page 700 of my Writing Today textbook I read "A Gay Man's Case Against Gay Marriage" and he argues against gay marriage not because of the bonds and civil rights you gain but because he believes that being married will not help a gay relationship. He argues the point that "homosexual" and "heterosexual" people  have better relationships and they should take the time to date and build the relationship before considering marriage because marriage causes more problems. Instead of arguing for marriage argue for the benefits that come with marriage like tax breaks, inheritance, access to health care, and guaranteeing loans.

In my opinion I think whether a homosexual couple is married or not if they are living together for more than 5 years they should have the benefits of a married couple but without the legal bond because everybody deserves the right to be happy and if the homosexual community had the availability to the rights of a married couple then the gay marriage issue wouldn't be such a big issue as it is.

ideals destroying familys

I read a quote today that really moved me inside.  "On the one side, conservatives pointed to abortion, illegitimacy, and homosexuality as forces destroying the family. On the other, liberals cited domestic violence, economic insecurity, and inadequate public supports as the key problems afflicting the family." - Whitehead

Even though both sides make very good points in such conservatives are saying that abortion and homosexuality is destroying families is because they don't believe this things are morally correct. Having an abortion is killing another human being and homosexuality is a sin in the bible. Liberals say violence , and economic problems destroy families because these are common problems in households today which lead to divorce. The family is not economically stable or there is violence in the household so there is tension and anger in the house.

But their are weaknesses in the viewpoints. Abortion and homosexuality are sins but this may give a family a chance to raise a child in a better home. If a teenager gets pregnant at 18 they are not economically stable to raise a child. If they get an abortion and have a kid later on in life they will have a better home for their first child. If a person is happier with the same sex this means the environment  will be more stable for a child to be in , so when they are ready they can adopt and have a good home for a needy child.

So in my opinion I have to agree more with the liberal side in that domestic violence and economic problems destroy more families than abortion or homosexuality.

marrige ideals

I have read this article on marrige ideals and i believe even though we have come a long way with the rights of women and children and marital rights i see similarities with marrige today and marrige way back then. Back then the man was allowed to sleep with other women. In marrige this is not allowed today but you see it very often with men in marrige they commit adultry in marrige in which this causes divorce. Its more rare to see a women commit adultry then men. Also back in the old ages in western civilization it was frowned upon to get a divorce but it still happened. I dont believe marrige makes a bond or makes somebody faithful. The feelings each person has for one another is what makes the bond and makes somebody faithful. This is why getting married for the wrong reasons is why marrige fails. Only when when two people are truely in love is when they should take this big step. Back in western civilization most people married for economic reasons and there was rarely romance in the marrige. That must of sucked!
